An activist for social and environmental justice who is against the process of hydraulic fracturing also called fracking. Fracktivists generally take non violent direct action by holding forums, rallies, action camps, marches, blockades, contact blitzes, tree sits, locking themselves to equipment and occupying corporate and government spaces to overcome the high dollar PR campaigns of the Oil & Gas industry.

From New York to California and around the globe, fracktivists have united to save the planet by a common call of "BAN FRACKING NOW!"

In the E-Learning and Digital Cultures Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) taught by the University of Edinburgh through Coursera, fraingers are strangers from around the globe who met on the various EDC MOOC digital learning spaces and through asynchronous posts discovered their affinity for learning and solidified their connections through synchronous tools like Google Hangouts to become digital friends.

We met as strangers in EDC MOOC, and our asynchronous posts on Facebook and Google Plus helped us become fraingers, or digital friend-strangers for life. Fraingers are strangers from around the world who became friends in a MOOC, and have never met in person.
