Since Julie ignored Corrine's text about a sleepover, Corrine got the sign that she was the backup friend, because Julie asks her to do things very seldom.

This is a guy that a girl keeps "on the bench" or at an arm's length just in case she breaks up with her boyfriend. He usually is crazy about her, very good looking and very eager "to get into the game". Just like a backup quarterback in football.

When a girl or guy breakup the other gets invovled into another relationship right away. Usualy within 2 weeks after the break up. The other person they are invoved with is known as the "backup". Look out for someone they have never introduce you too but yet they always have contact with. They will just say it is only a friend. But the "backup" is the person they go too if your relationship falls through
