A misspronounced version of the spanish and some african languages word for black, "Negro"
Apparently, it was this exact word that racially opressed black people, and this word alone.
further more, the racial tag that goes along with saying this word if you are not black compleatly contradicts its self in every way that black people say it is offensive because it
1)is only allowed to be said by black people (hmm i remember when other things were only allowed to be used by black people, i believe they were racist though O.o)
2)Is actually used FREQUENTLY by black people! having grown up around many black people, most of which society would call "ghetto" ive come across the explanation that it is a "term of endirment"
this by the way is complete bull shit as 90% of black people dont take any offence or most likely dont know the meaning of most other racial slurs against blacks.

Since a lot of people writing definitions on here are inbreds with an 5th grade education, I feel that an intelligent person needs to correct any misconceptions.
#1: The word applies only to those who are ignorant, stupid, and whiny among ALL races.
#2: The word, along with "cracker" is acceptable for use by blacks because of its history. Nigger was always used, from the beginning of its slang-usage, for an inferior non-human being with dark skin. Cracker was used to describe a slave master's whip, and has recently been used non-seriously by comedians. Nigger was NEVER used by blacks back when it was a common term. Now which one sounds more offensive to you?
#3: To think that a black person is inferior is to flaunt your limited education. Humans think with their brains, not their skin color. To say "The average IQ of blacks is less than whites" as an argument is invalid. It's like me saying "All whites are Christian because the average white man is Christian", or "All whites have brown eyes because the average eye color is brown". AVERAGE does not mean ALL, and in order to call an entire race inferior, ALL members of the race need to be of less worth than ALL members of another race.

Nigger
A derogatory word originating during the time of slavery in the United States, and stemming from the word "Negro" which is Spanish for the color Black. This word was used to define any person with non-white skin...even Native Americans. The word caught on as slave owners successfully tried to turn their slaves against each other. Soon slaves were calling each other "niggers". It created an air-tight system that would continue to oppress for hundreds of years to come.
"These niggers have no idea that we are controlling them through the mass-media 'rap' culture," said the white business executive.
