Discrediting Bias

A bias focused on systematically undermining the credibility of people, sources, or institutions that provide opposing information. Discrediting Bias goes beyond questioning evidence to questioning the very possibility that certain sources could be trustworthy. It's the bias of poisoning the well before any water is drawn—making it impossible for opposing information to be heard because its sources have been pre-emptively discredited.

A self-proclaimed ruler of a Discord server, usually armed with an overinflated sense of power and a ban hammer ready to swing at the slightest inconvenience. Known for micromanaging chats, enforcing rules that no one cares about, and using “infractions” as a way to feel important. Typically found lurking in the server at all hours, waiting for any opportunity to “warn” or “mute” someone for speaking out of turn, using a single emoji too many, or typing in all caps. Their expertise includes correcting typos, banning users for vague reasons like “being too toxic,” and replying with “read the rules” whenever they get called out. They often rock the title of "Admin" and act like it’s a badge of honor, but in reality, they’re just the guy who spends too much time online.

Person 1: "I just posted a meme and the Discord Mod kicked me for ‘inappropriate content’—it was just a picture of a dog." Person 2: "Lmao, classic Discord Mod move. He's out here banning people like it’s his full-time job."

Discrete Self Model

The unspoken assumption behind most of the DSM (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders): that every human is a neatly bounded, fully knowable individual who can be diagnosed like a glitchy toaster.

Used to justify labeling complex, context-driven human behavior as “disordered” while ignoring trauma, systems, relationships, and late-stage capitalism.

Symptoms may include:
• Taking your emotions personally
• Believing your thoughts are facts
• Assuming “normal” exists
• Diagnosing others on TikTok
