Though the ultimate causes of WCCDS are unknown, it is believed to result from situations where an individual’s beliefs about the way the world is and ought to be differ significantly from available evidence about the way the world actually is. It is frequently accompanied by inexplicable feelings of persecution and a pronounced tendency toward tribalism. WCCDS is named for its prevalence among conservative members of the majority White-Christian demographic in the United States.

Misfit Patriot Derangement Syndrome (abbreviated as "MPDS") is a pejorative term usually for criticism or negative reactions to the TikTok creator Misfit Patriot, that are perceived to be irrational, and have little regard towards Misfit Patriot or his actual positions, statements, behavior or content.
Symptoms of MPDS can be described as attempts to discredit criticism, as a way of reframing the discussion by suggesting that Misfit Patriot and his supporters are incapable of accurately perceiving the world, are racist, sexist, bigots, or any other trigger word which would result in rage-farming toward Misfit Patriot, his friends and supporters.
