Goth is a loosely defined social sub-culture. Stereotypically, goths are deep, tortured artists, listen to ambient, dark (sub-par) music and have a penchant for self-harm. Some people who follow these trends do not describe themselves as goths, while many supposed goths do not follow them at all. My brother was hanging out with two goth friends, and a bunch of skangers made fun of them, to which one of the goths replied, and in all seriousness: "I will eat their souls". Had I have been there, I would have taken some time to explain to him that Evil Dead is just a movie and, also, the Necronomicon is not real. It IS true that Goths typically see themselves as unique individuals, although, to describe oneself as such and yet be part of an entire sub-culture essentially makes the term "goth" an oxymoron. The plus side to gothic fashion, is that it allows for naturaly beautiful women to show off curves and such. The flip-side of this is that fat women think this is ok for them to dress like that also, and dress in tight, ultra-revealing and lacy clothing which is gauranteed to give many men impotency for at least a month. All male goths look stupid, without exception. Male goths see the crow and emulate his appearance, without realisng that gothic fashion only looks cool on men in films because it makes them look dramatic. In real-life, there is far less drama and even less action to allow giant leather trenchcoats, black metal-esque make-up to work.

I was going to type up a huge list of frequent gothic misconceptions, beliefs and lies and the contradictions and discrimination that comes with them, but someone has already done this for me, but forgot to add why every single thing he/she said is a lie. If you have read the extremely offensive and discriminating, lengthy pseudo-facts about goths and the difference between the chav sub-culture, I think you'll know where I'm going with this. I'll cover the most important of his or her's misinformation (I'll ignore his/her spelling mistakes which automatically deduct from his/her credibility, at least on the whole stereotypical "goths are intelligent" thing).

"In the morning, a goth will ask themselves “what do I want to wear?” whilst a chav will ask themselves “what in this selection of clothes is the most acceptable thing to wear?” "

This fails to point out the fact that, being a goth, he/she is similarly limited in clothing just as the chav is, only being a goth, he/she has tried to give a different reason for this.

"A goth will listen to music that is meaningful to their life and thought provoking, a chav will listen to music which will tell him how to behave. "
This one ignores the fact that goth music itself is typically centered around a limited subject matter, and avoids discussing how "chav music" tells people how to behave.

The next paragraph, hilariously, contains several goth cliches, we are all doomed, life is pointless, blah-blah-blah, ignoring how other people may not think so, proving how close-minded he/she really is. Also he/she calls non-goths fools for not conforming to his/her point of view.

Then, the money shot: "I treat others as I wish to be treated myself"
Yes that's right, after making a gigantic entry belittling chavs and non-goths, for, incredibly, not conforming to his/her beliefs, and moaning that no-one undertands him/her, he/she commits the ultimate hypocrisy and states that he/she treats everyone as she would want to be treated. Hmm. Does this means he/she likes being told he/she is inferior, unoriginal and uncreative?

"As a goth, all you various ‘rude’ forms of life make me sick. Goth is what the individuals do- and as for the idea of the wannabe goth these either revert to conformity or evolve.(I mean slipknot/korn fans, as for manson fans I think those who say he isn’t gothic just don’t know enough about him- sure listening to manson WILL NOT make you gothic, but give that poor dark philisophical soul some credit! He’s certainly not gonna un-goth you!)"

Let me get this straight. He/she has insulted every non-goth at every step of his/her entry, and now, quite hypocritacally calls US rude. Oh. Almost forgot the insertion of the common misconception that goths are intelligent and dark and philisophical. And the even-more frequent mis-conception that Manson is a good musician. No-one older than 17 listens to him, by the way.

Finally:
"Goths make the greatest friends. Goths have the unusual ideas. Goths just don’t suffer from the same afflictions of ‘normality’ as you self-mirroring lot- change for once. down with mediocrity."

I have the greatest friends on the planet. They are always there for me, they listen to my problems, they listen to different music, have interests and expertise in different things, they don't even fit into a sub-culture. What makes your goth friends so much better than mine?

Unusual ideas? At no-where have you stated why, or provided evidence why this is:
A:Only inherent goths or
B:Neccessarily a good thing.

Goths don't suffer from the same resrictions of normality?
This world is not the matrix and you, nor any-other self-important goth are NOT neo. I love the way these people act like they don't make funny noises taking a shit like the rest of us do... "I'm so deep and -oohhuuuUUnnggaaarggh!!! " *Sploosh!*

Self-mirroring: Way to prove your intelligence, gothic-Einstein. This term literally means to mirror, dun-dun-DUUUUUH! Yourself! What? Are you saying I look like myself? Is that a bad thing? Why? Maybe I should conform to what you say and not look like myself. Ok, I just tried it now, but every time I looked in the mirror, I still just looked like me.

Mediocrity: Yes down with mediocrity! Better yet, down with self-contradiction, delusions of superiority, and discrimination towards people who do not share your fashion-statement, or "dark" philosophies!

Goth and Emo are basically the same thing. There are the posers and the real ones. The posers will completely conform to the stereotype because they think it is cool. They will dress in a fashion of what they see depicted on the internet. The real ones will just create their own style because they don't like conformism. They see beauty in the darker side of life. What is a rose without thorns?
Real Goth/Emo: That kids a poser
Other Real Goth/Emo: yeah. He's just doing it because he thinks it is cool

A goth is commonly known as a person or people who dress all in black, listen to death metal, are depressed all the time, and talk about commiting suicide.
Yet this is just a stereotype. Goths are friendly people, who will asociate with anyone, no matter what "genre" they are.

First of all, there are several kinds of Goths.

1)Traditional goths: Usually displayed by main charicters in fiction books or movies, Such as Van Helsing or V for Vendetta. "Traditional" goths are bold, creative, and very intelegent people. They usually dress in all black and white. Most Traditional Goths do not wear all the spiky studded stuff. Usually just long dark clothes made of Leather or Velvet. They are usually on the brighter side of life and expect the unexpected. They simply choose this life style because it is different from the majority. Traditional Goths will listen to all kinds of music, but favor and find the beauty in Classical, Opera, and Instrumental music. They appretiate great art, drama, music, or anything else that has a sense of "elegence" to it. They have a strong sense of symbolism, and often wear lots of necklaces or rings. Traditional Goths enjoy being around just about anyone as long as the people they are with arn't to immature. Most Traditional Goths are of Christian Faith, though can be of any religion.

2)Modern Goths: Modern Goths are much like Traditional Goths, but more "modern" as the name may suggest. They are bold, creative, and intelegent. Displaying many of the traits of a Traditional Goth. But they wear the kinds of clothes you might find at Spencers, Hot topic, or your local Renassance fair. Modern Goths listen to most kinds of music, but will perfer more Hardcore music or Metal. They like the feeling of being "Heavy" and "Extreme" while at the same time not breaking the law or anything. They are rebelious and will do everything in their power from becoming a conformist. Most of them enjoy the Fine Arts, but in a different light from Traditional goths. Modern Goths love to be with freinds, and in large groups just hanging out.

3) Punk Goths: Punk Goths are not at all like any other kinds of Goths. Punk Goths wear the kind of spiky, studded, covered in black clothes a Modern Goth might wear, but similarities end there. Punk Goths are as the name suggests. Punks. They are usually nice people but they do enjoy breaking the rules most of the time. They listen to usually nothing less hardcore then Trash Metal and don't have as great respect for the fine arts as other Goths do.
They simply enjoy looking and acting tougher then the average joe.

4)Emo Goths: Now, I know alot of you people out there think Emo's are horrible posers that wish they were the opposite sex, slit their wrists, and want all the attention in the world. Emo Goths are alot different.
Emo Goths are usually from families that don't function well. For example, one of their parents may be an alchoholic or a stoner. Perhapes the death of a dear friend of relative, or maybe just feeling alone. Emo Goths wear pretty much nothing but black, sometimes with studs. Usually wearing Black skater brand T shirts or Band T shirts with black or blue jeans. Emo Goths have great respect for the fine arts, and usually listen to Punk Rock, Altrernative, or metal. Some Emo Goths do harm themselves, some see it as a distraction or a temperary escape from the stress they may be under. Emo Goths do not HAVE to be under stress to be an Emo Goth, but stress is what may lead to it. Emo Goths are usually creative in their own ways, and like to be alone maybe with a small group of friends. They hate crowded rooms and being with large mobs of people.

5)Black Goths: Black Goths are usually good people, but some may call them "Evil". Most Black goths are Wiccans, Satanists, or of other "Unusual" Religions. They beleive in magic and curses. Most Black Goths are nice people, someone you can have a normal conversation with. Some of them are a bit like punk Goths, like breaking the rules. The personality of a Black Goth really depends on their Religion. Not all "Satanic" Black Goths are the kind of people that want everyone to die though, some of them are as normal as you are. Black Goths enjoy being with people much like themselves, and enjoy all kinds of music. Usually Classical, Traditional, or "Black Metal". Black Goths may wear long black robes or Jackets. Sometimes wearing normal clothes.

So as you can see there are many times of Goths as there are many types of people. Do not misjudge them simply because they look "Demonic" or like something out of a horror movie. Get to know one first. All Goths display individuality proudly. Which is what makes them a Goth. Not all Goths have to wear black or studded Leather. "Goth" is more of a personality then it is a style.

A clique of people viewed as many things, including whiny, artistic, brilliant, and scary. Hypocritically non-conformist, as the goths you see most of (supposedly posers) all wear clothes that were taken out of a burned down Hot Topic and share the same pessimistic attitude. Most of them probably have a great life and still bitch about how mean their parents are. They do not worship the Devil, I'll give them that. Worshiping the Devil is just something that extreme right wing politicians make up to make artists who speak their mind look bad.
Marilyn Manson is not a Goth.
More than half of the population of a school for the arts is probably Goths.

People who express their individuality and dislike of societies conventions by, ironically, rebelling in the same way. They conform to a gothic convention of wearing black clothes, black makeup and having an even blacker outlook on life. These conventions are often enforced by a group mentality even stronger than the one they claim to oppose. Also an old tribe from Europe - but that is lost on many who call themselves goth because listening in ancient history class is definately not cool for a goth
Newbie Goth: Can I be a goth and wear colorful clothes?
Elder Goth: No!!! Only weird black clothes are allowed to express your individuality!
Newbie Goth: I dont get it?

A “Goth” is a member of a southern Scandinavian tribe originating from “Gotaland”, an island off the coast of modern-day Sweden. Famous for their wandering emigration, which coursed through eastern Europe over several generations, they ultimately settled in various parts of the Western Roman Empire. The two main branches were the “Ostrogoths”, who settled primarily in the Italian peninsula and in regions north thereof, and the “Visigoths”, who ultimately controlled much of the Iberian peninsula.

Many children who possess poor posture, emotional frailty, lack of vigor, strength, or endurance, sheepishness, melodramatic sensitivity, nearly pathological conformity to others' manner of dress and hairstyles, and absolutely pathological self-hatred toward their own personal, natural individuality and self-image erroneously use the term “goth” to describe themselves.

In reality, not a more antithetical term could have been chosen.

Goths did not spend two hours in the morning getting their bangs “just right”, because hair obscuring the vision of one eye would make archery and swordplay far less effective. While a twenty-something “goth” quietly spends a gargantuan amount of time painting his nails and scouring thrift stores for girls clothing in the 21st century (HOMO!), a twenty-something Goth would have been calling conventions between other chieftains, devising logistical and tactical plans against a common enemy (COOL).
