Tasksplosion

The unexpected and natural process whereby a simple, single task requires you to complete a whole set of tasks, some of them unrelated to the one at hand.

Sometimes stupid things lead to a tasksplosion. I realized we were out of garbage bags, so I went to the basement to get some. There weren't any, so I have to go to the grocery store. But to do that, I'll have to 1) Gas up the car, 2) Go to the ATM and get money so I can pay for the gas, 3) Go to the grocery store and buy the bags and finally go home. But the garbage can is really filthy so I have to clean it first. Oops we're out of cleaning products and paper towels... another tasksplosion!

Multi-tasking

Juggling far too many tasks at the same time, half of which are light years away from your job description, because your boss is too much of a tight-arse to recruit properly, despite picking up a certain percentage of his salary precisely for recruiting and managing his own personnel.

The boss had me multi-tasking on PR, corporate relations, synergy management and copy-pasting all at once!

Soul Crushing Task

A simple task involving many small steps or the same simple task repeated many times across different data. Largely mindless but some level of attention must be paid in order to avoid having to repeat the entire task.

Having to go through the entire book and count the times the word 'and' was used was a Soul Crushing Task.

Thank You Jerry

A statement found on several Deadheads' vehicle rear bumpers expressing thanks to the late Jerry Garcia, singer, guitarist, songwriter and icon for the San Francisco roots rock band the Grateful Dead. The Grateful Dead disbanded in December 1995 after the death of Jerry Garcia earlier in the year.

The Grateful Dead are an American institution.
They truly loved to play rock'n'roll music as well as its roots, the band was very devoted to these things.

Thank God for small favors

An ancestor of this phrase is "Thank heaven for small mercies". It's often used sarcastically to express relief that an unpleasant person or situation is avoided or gone.

"That annoying student finally moved to another state," the secretary told the principal.
"Thank God for small favors," replied the Principal.
