Political puppet

A politician or other political figure who is controlled by another (sometimes illegitimate or secret) person or party. The controller ("puppeteer") uses the puppet's granted power to further their intentions.

See also George W. Bush and Karl Rove.
Big ol' Dubya was Rove's political puppet. Rove called the shots, Bush just
listened.

political stockholm syndrome

It is when a person understands that the government and politicians are corrupt, but will not go down the rabbit hole because it shatters the paradigm they live in. In other words, when having a conversation about politics, they will readily agree that politicians lie, but when you begin breaking it down for them about how corrupt they actually are and point out any nefarious agendas, they will then call you crazy, or a conspiracy theorist. At this point, they will defend those who imprison them with the lies they accept as the truth.
Tom is a good guy, but he refuses to accept that there is no possible way a missile could have hit the pentagon. He refuses to use common sense to see that the engines and wings would have also destroyed the building, and not just leave a single hole. He truly has Political Stockholm Syndrome.

Most people in this country have PSS, they refuse to see the truth before their eyes.

Political Pyromaniac

A person who gets a thrill out of setting people up against each other, especially in online bulletin boards and often regarding people and issues in their locality. The Political Pyromaniac may take a posting or email message and forward or copy it to another person, knowing that it will cause a virulent reaction. The PP essentially likes to set fires and stand back and watch the ensuing fireworks or explosion. They are also the peeping Toms of the Internet and closet drama kings and queens.
Charles, a known Political Pyromaniac, received a group email post. Tina said a website owned by a man named Jim was "an amusing little supposedly non-political site." Charles forwarded the message to Jim. Jim then sent an anti-Tina email to everyone on the group and copied it to her bosses, trying to get her fired. He pointed out that Tina's husband was "a city police officer," which was not relevant to anyone receiving the message. The recipients didn't really know Jim or why he was so upset or what he was getting at. They responded in Tina's defense. Charles sat back and watched the action and then quietly unsubscribed from the email group.

political psychiatry

The ad hominem attack of mental illness accusations used to quell or impeach a political dissident. In extreme cases it leads to the medically unnecessary comital of the dissident to a mental institution and/or the forcing of the dissident to take pacifying or punitive medication.

It is a particularly effective method for totalitarian regimes as they can shield the public from viewing evidence supporting the claims of the dissident. It is also effective when the dissident has inherently eccentric behavior that can be magnified by the frustrations of dealing with the government's accusations.

With freedom of the press and the internet it is becoming an increasingly rare tactic.

The best defense is to communicate through an attorney, remain calm at all times, and amass as much evidence as possible before raising further dissent.
Soviets, Maoist China, Nazi Germany, Ceausescu Romania, ...

Doctor Johnson is engaged in political psychiatry to keep a lid on the mayor's corruption. The mayor paid Johnson to say Mr. Smith is crazy so the press would stop giving him interviews.
