Maitena

Maitena is a word used to refer to a person who is ambitious, treacherous, envious, competitive, and who does misrepresentation. It is something like what is popularly known as "sharp tongue" or "lizard" (and variations like "snake", "bad woman", "traitorous friend, you never laugh, never cry", etc). It can also be interpreted as that person who "goes in the back" or "stabs daggers in the back".

A pejorative name that recently became popular in the Philippines, aimed at older women who are known gossips among their neighbors. While this word is mainly directed towards women, there are some male Mariteses; it could be considered the Filipino equivalent of Karen. (another term for this is 'chismosa')
Person 1: How the heck did that Marites find out about her pregnancy? We haven't told anyone about it!
Person 2: Maybe because you keep shouting all the time. You know their ears are glued to everybody's walls, Person 1!
