The Dalai Lama, while today is known as the 'exiled leader of Tibet', gained his right to rule in Tibet during the rule of the "Great Fifth" Dalai Lama, Lobsang Gyatso, from China in 1653 from emperor Shunzhi of the Qing Dynasty.
