A person who claims military heroics or credentials, but either exaggerates his service or never served at all. Often supported by the anti-war left until caught. Most famously used by Rush Limbaugh during a 2007 radio show

Jesse MacBeth is the most famous phony soldier, who claimed he served in Iraq, but lasted only 44 days in basic training.

phony voice

Using a fake voice while talking on the phone. Not really a change in the voice as much as the manner in which you speak.

Talking to someone you are not close/comfortable with. Speaking slower, more clearly, using words and a tone that is very different than when talking to a good close friend.

Telemarketers voice. Talking to a relative you're not close to. How you would speak on a phone interview.

My stepmother called, I had to use my phony voice with her.

Phonytail

The cheap-looking hairpiece a person (typically a woman, however men can use phonytails too) picks up at the drugstore and clips onto the back of their head, thus giving the appearance of a long, lustrous ponytail... that is just a few shades off of their hair color. Usually for those who lack the brains or money to get real hair extensions or stop ruining their hair.

Man, did you see that? Sherri's tryin' to work the phonytail... too bad shes a blonde and the only ones CVS had left were for brown hair.
