What counts as beneficial is based entirely on the lover's understanding of the beloved. Since people don't even fully understand themselves, let alone anything not themselves, it is reasonable that sometimes what the lover expects to be beneficial to the beloved will either be ineffectual or negatively impacting. This is a prescriptive definition.
Lots of women seem to love shopping and drama for some reason. Many children love ice cream. I love my children. I loved my wife all of her life.
