nerd fest

any event/function/conference that attracts crowds of nerds or inspires lots of nerds to attend it's functions. things that appeal to nerds and causes them to gather in great numbers, such as: a sci-fi/fantasy movie premiere(e.g. "star wars", "transformers", "harry potter") or a conference based on popular nerd fare such as: "star trek" conference, or "comic-con", "macworld"(or any computer confab)"anime festival"(cosplay), etc. any event which causes large numbers of nerds to leave their parents' basements and their computers and go out in public in large numbers

person1: "man, i went to an early matinee of transformers, hoping to avoid the nerd fest, but no such luck."
prson2: "yeah, i went to the macworld conference last year; what a huge nerd fest!"

Nerdcave

A nerd's lair; a bachelor pad complete with a computer on a desk with ready access to the Internet (where occupants spend the bulk of their time when not sleeping), world-canceling features such as a door or noise-reducing headphones, and a respectable number of comforting knick knacks (ie collectibles, south park memorabilia, Todd McFarlane posters, etc.).

Josh Baskin's apartment in the movie 'Big'

The bat cave (that dude held on to everything)

your place (you know who you are)

Nerd

A highly intelligent person, whose "nerdiness" is not necessarily restricted to one certain area of interest, but someone who has many varied interests and a vast amount of knowledge for all of them. Nerds are constantly learning and love to acquire new knowledge. Also, nerds do not announce to other people that they are nerds. This is something wanna-be nerds do, so if a person mentions a show they fanatically watch or a video game they play 24/7 and then gush "I'm such a nerd!", that person is actually a poser, does not deserve the esteemed title of Nerd, and most likely should be punched in the face. Just because being a real nerd is now cool, does not mean that you are.

Girl who has no idea what the capital of Minnesota is: Oh my god, I looooove Skyrim, I'm such a nerd!

Girl who knows all the countries, states, provinces and capitals of the world: I beg to differ. Excuse me while I go read War and Peace.
