Each time the smuggled cocaine switches hands it is almost always cut or "stepped on" resulting in lower purity & even the possibility of dangerous cutting agents by the time it reaches the users. To achieve a purer cocaine base & eliminate these cutting agents many users "wash" the cocaine with 100% anhydrous acetone. Depending on the cut an acetone wash can also be used in conjunction with other purifying methods. After "washing", the cocaine base can be smoked or converted back to powdered cocaine HCI using muriatic acid. There are several "washing" methods outlined on the internet and some require highly flammable and explosive chemicals such as ether. Due to this risk many prefer acetone as a safer and as effective alternative.
