Adj. To ostensibly sound meaningful, when really there is no substance to the message.

Group poetry criticisms and discussions about religion are two of the most phosphorous things.

The following examples are extremely phosphorous:

"Yes, I think that the author has written this poem about the sadness of death."

*reads a passage from the Bible*
"The message that I take away from this verse is that Jesus Christ is wonderful."
