The variant "Hoopjack" can also refer to these people. In some cases, "Hoopie" or "Hoopieland" can simply refer to the state of West Virginia. It is usually used to express the annoyance or displeasure of having to go to West Virginia. Lastly, "Hoopie" can be used to refer to the West Virginia Mountaineers football team in a derogatory manner.
