Some participants are rumored to kidnap humans and steal pets and livestock in order to conduct their illegal experiments. So basically mad scientists of the modern day

Something scientists don't want anybody to question or think of as pseudoscience, they want people to take it seriously as nothing but facts and answers, nothing but nonfiction.

Scientists want to convince people that they and their science are more serious than you and everyone else, and that it's why you should take them seriously rather than question them when really they're among the least socially responsible people, always experimenting with people's lives the way they do with their lab animals.
