I've notice that there are a TON of kids walking around dressing "emo". In my school alone there are dozens of people going around saying that they're "totally emo" and that they hate when people try to steal their style. This just pissed me off and so I want to tell all those little fakes why they aren't really emo. If you fit into any of these categories sorry, you're just a poser.
1. You are not "emo" if you listen to faggy little bands like Fall Out Boy or people like Avril Lavigne.
2. You are not "emo" if you constanly brag about how emo you are
3. You are not "emo" if you don't know what emo means (btw. it does NOT mean emotional)
4. You are not emo if you shop at Hot Topic.
5. You are not "emo" if you like Disney stars. In fact you're not normal if you like Disney stars and you're not a nine year old girl.
6. You're not "emo" if you hate your life because your boyfriend/girlfriend broke up with you or your mom took your cell phone or something. It's not that bad you'll get over it.
7. You are not "emo" if you cut yourself. You just have issues.
8. You are not automatically "emo" if you have black hair with layers.
9. You are not "emo" if you are a guy who likes to wear eyeliner. Seriously, it makes you look like a drag queen.
10. You are an emo poser if your screen name consists of more than one X.

Nowadays, most kids are posing as punks/goths/emos/skaters by dressing like them, acting like them, and sharing the same interests as them. Since so many kids are doing this, its very difficult to tell the difference between a real goth and a poser goth.
Here's a more specific definition:
Posers can be quite vicious. They pick on many people, most of who haven't done anything to them.
VICTIM #1: Real punks/goths/emos/skaters. Posers usually call them posers because they want a self-esteem boost. They want to be more goth than the goths, or more punk than the punks are. But lemme tell you posers out there, if you posing as a punk( Im going to use punk as an example because there are more punk posers than other posers) and the only reason you think you are is because you buy all of your apparel at Hot Topic and think Good Charlotte is cool only because you think Benji Madden looks hot in liberty spikes, you have no right to call someone who is a real punk, someone who is really anti-establishment and is all about the music, a poser.
VICTIM #2: Anyone else who is not trying to be punk/goth/emo/skater and is interested in the same things as they are. For example, if a poser who thinks he/she is a goth because they wear no other color but black sees someone wearing black capris, they call them a poser because apparently to them, goths are the only people that are ever allowed to wear black. So what if they like black too! Goths aren't the only ones who are allowed to wear black.
So basically, a poser is someone who claims they are punk/emo/goth/skater and go around calling other people with the same interests as them posers because they claim they're "stealing their interests" and also to make themselves seem more punk/emo/goth/skater.
I hope my furious rant plainly explained to you what a true poser is.

Get the poser mug.I have a good definiton for poser. My cousin. She is very cool, but is a pretty big poser. SHe recently started liking rock. Her favorite bands are Green Day, Panic! at the Disco, AFI, Simple Plan, My Chemical Romance...and thats pretty much it. I asked her if she knew "Death Cab for Cutie" "Blink 182" and even the old songs of Green Day...and she had NO IDEA. SHe painted her nails black, borrows her sisters black shirts(which says 'baby phat' on them, but as long as they are black, she doesnt care), and started to hate pink. Well, I like rock and metal, but I dont dress all in black. Her myspace is sooo emo and she tries to hit on emo kids. Her sisters call her goth, but she denies it. WHAT GIVES?! I mean, she doesnt even know what Oldies are!!!! She has no idea who Korn or Slipknot is. She shoudl just give up.
