Ala mode means "with icecream." Ala mode is usually used in the same sentence as custards and pies.

Friend: Hey can you get me a slice of apple pie ala mode.
Dude: Nah man, sorry we ran out of icecream. I can give you just the apple pie though.

A political term, referring to a specific person who has metaphorically removed his/her head from the anal cavity and chosen to think and reason for oneself. Moderates do not use partisan propaganda in their logic or rationale; rather, they choose to examine candidates and issues with a logical and critical eye. Moderates will vote for the candidate who they believe will do the least damage and is lesser of two evils (as we know anyone who willingly chooses to become engaged in politics as a career is inherently evil). Moderates and history teachers/majors are the last bastions of the thinking man in modern-day politics.
