The best way to avoid a Barnacle is by way of a "Barnacle Alert," typically administered by SMS or similar technological means. This serves to warn the recipient that a Barnacle is in the area and to steer clear. Barnacles are notorious for flouting the law, so overall it's best to steer clear of them.
