Contrary to another definition listed here, the first 1 to 3" of the poppy stem at the top near the head of the poppy pod actually DOES contain opiate alkaloids. Poppy straw in general, as stated in another entry, is almost useless for making poppy tea (see entry under pt for accurate instructions, tried and true, that have worked best for years after trying every method possible). The first few inches of the stem from the knob down, as the plant is growing and maturing, does contain tea material as the alkaloids contained in the pod head RUN DOWN into the stem - but only so far. It takes 10 to 15 of these small stems to equal one pod. However, stems do NOT grind well and you end up with what looks like straw. This may be part of the reason it takes so many of the stems to equal a pod. However, the process is the same as is shown in the pt entry. Opium poppy tea can be made from not only the heads of the poppy pod above the knob but also the first few inches of stem that is attached as well as the seeds. However, do not mix the seeds in with your pod tea since there is a completely different method for making poppy seed tea (as well as some disadvantages to making seed tea over even stem tea).
I was out of poppy pods but had a lot of stems that I had saved for times like this so that if and when I ever ran out of pods, I'd have something to get me by until my next order arrives. Stem tea isn't my favorite but it will get the job done in a pinch. Besides, with shortages at times and the price of pods these days, I want to use any and all parts that will actually make tea that works.

In broad application, a woman in STEM is simply a female studying or working in the fields of science, technology, engineering, or math. More typically, the term applies to female engineers only who look down upon the other sciences.

These are the unfortunate children born with slightly brighter minds than most, And the unfortunate off-spring of STEM Parents. While most people who do go into STEM fields are quite successful, it is simply not the case with these poor souls. These children are naturally fairly bright and often surpass normal levels of intelligence and comprehension for their age, but as they age they grow into their intelligence, They are no longer exceptionally intelligent children, they're now above average teens and adults. After likely being shipped off to some STEM School or Advanced School of Insert Generic Scientific Term as a child they begin to struggle and fall behind, The work being provided is not the same easy amount of manageable assignments as before in their normal schools back when they still had friends and relationships. The transition has hurt them, and they are hurting on the inside. Their STEM Parents remain totally oblivious to this and continue to slobber over How their children are going to be so wildly successful and brilliant when they go to some University or collage and study Some advanced science crap or some sort of NASA related thing for 4+ years. This continues on until the Child goes mad, Moves out and attempts to live a normal live free from dictation, Or somehow manages to live up to their parents in a painful existence.
Mike: Did you see that kid over there, He looked really stressed.
June: Yeah, he did. Sort of reminds me of a STEM Child. Did you hear his parents boasting about him to all the teachers?
Mike: Yeah, and they were the teachers in the grade ahead of him..
June: Definitely a STEM Child.
Mike: Definitely STEM Parents. Hope the guy is better off in the future.
