nostalgia backfire

An event in which someone gets re-acquainted with a favorite song, movie, or other thing from their past, but eventually finds that it only reminds them of the time at which they got back into it.

My junior year of high school, I went up into the attic and found that Super Mario game I used to play when I was, like, 10 years old. But now when I play it all I can think of is how it was the one thing about my high school days that didn't suck. What a total freaking nostalgia backfire.

Nostalgia tears are the tears you shed during a moment of intense nostalgia.

Mostly this happens when you listen to a song you used to love listening to as a kid. Your brain remembers simpler and happier times of your life and you miss them.

Dude I just listened to (insert song here) and omg that really gave me nostalgia tears to my eyes..why can't things be this simple again?
