goths

Goth is not a label. Goth is a real culture that expresses the beauty in darkness and morbidity. Goths usually wear all black, the color of their soul. They don't just wear anything black, the black clothes are more unique and elegant. Some Goths go beyond the black clothes and they wear thick eyeliner and black lipstick. Some make their faces white like a ghost and dye their hair unnatural colors. Goths can be Satan worshippers, Atheists, Christians, Pagans, Wiccans, or any religion. There are some people who give Goths a bad name and other Goths call them posers, but that is simply not true. In a garden, though some vegetables may be rotten, that doesn't mean they aren't vegetables. And as for Goths and non-conformity, what does Goth have to do with non-conformity??? If people join the Gothic Culture just because they want to be non-conformists then that is a very bad reason to become Gothic. People can be Gothic and still be individuals. I'm a Goth and I'm also an individual and I don't try to be different because there isn't any point in it. And Goths aren't all attention seekers. Many of us just feel comfortable looking a certain way, even if we have thick eyeliner and black lipstick, a pale face, and green hair. Not all Goths are angst-filled morons who have their mind set on blowing up their school. Alot of Goths don't even go to school; there are many adult Goths as well as teens. And I hate the word poser. People call other Goths posers to make themselves feel good. It's name calling, that's all it is, and it's very puerile. Calling someone a poser is definitely a form of bullying and it needs to be stopped.
I am a Goth because Goth is my soul.

I hate it when Goths get called Satan worshippers and it's not true and instead of just saying "I'm not a Satan worshipper" they go and say something negative about people who truly worship Satan.

I am a Satan worshipping Goth.

goth

1. Tribe of barbarians that invaded the Romans.

2. People use this to describe themselves when they are ignorant little bastards that have nothing better to do in life than mope around, be depressed, and talk about suicide. There is a better label for these people: posers.

3. Usually creative, strong, independent thinkers who are fun to be around and generally don't care about popularity. They attract friends who are like them, who aren't necessarily gothic but enjoy a good time and know how to think for themselves. Even if people you label "gothic" and stay away from look scary, actually try talking to them. You'll find that generally they are funny and interesting and aren't afraid to say what they think.

4. Goth music. Buahaha. Good stuff. Think Nine Inch Nails. Yaay. o0

5. People are not always poser goths just because they like "poser" bands like Linkin Park and Evanescence. Though they are NOT goth bands, there are some truly gothic people who just enjoy their songs because they like the tunes and stuff. Just because a few of Evanescence's songs have the word "suicide" in them doesn't mean that all the people who like them cut themselves up for no apparent reason.
But sadly, there are very many people who call themselves goth, are all depressed and STUPID, and listen to those bands just because they think that they're going to be cool because they're listening to *ooh* death and suicide and brokennes... god, people like that make me angry. Sooo angry.
1. Your history teacher: "So you've got your West Goths, and your East Goths, and the Vandals, and they invaded the Romans, and..."
You: -Not listening- Zzzzz...

2. Rich ass kid who has nothing beter to do than whine: "I'm a goth, my life sucks, go away, I think I'll kill myself now, BTW do you know I'm actually a vampire?"

3. Some... person: "You know that goth girl that always looks uber scary? Well I actually talked to her, and she's really nice..."

4. Duh: Avril Lavigne = NOT goth music NEVER NEVER NOOOO

5. a) I guess I like Linkin Park and Evanescence, but I'm not a suicidal freak or anything... I just like the way their music sounds.
b) Lyk OMG i'm a goth and i can prove it look i LOVE evanescence and lp and i slit my wrist...

Goth

A goth person can be many things.

Most goths tend to be thoughtful and interesting. They tend to define themselves as different with no interest in the mainstream, and also enjoy the heavier side of music.

Many of the so called "goths" in here have polluted this site with their slanted views and thoughts.

They believe that people who listen to Nu Metal are posers. This is untrue.

The fact that they scream "faggoth" at people who enjoy their own types of music are more poser-like than the accused.

Goth is more of a state of mind, a state of thought. Goths will support what they want to support, and listen what they want to listen to. Their values go deeper than those of people in the mainstream, and they generally are very sociable.

True goths have their own taste and way of life. The so called "true goths" bash them because they enjoy music that they dont like.

There is really no such thing as a goth poser. All poser images are based on opinion only, and are very biased.

There are many types of goths, with many different outlooks on life. Some are depressed, some are happy, but most are very cerebral and deep people.

Goths enjoy heavy music in general, such as death or black metal. Some lighter genres are permitted, and should even be celebrated, because they have their own taste.

Goths should never shape their taste to the mainstream just because other people do, and they are the ones who are true posers. You will be able to spot them very quickly.

Some goths may support gay rights, some may not, but among the goth circles, opinions are welcomed. The point of being goth is having indiviuality.
I enjoy the soft music of A Perfect Circle, and I also enjoy the rough death metal of Cannibal Corpse.

Goth

A spin-off of the punk genre founded in Britain in the late 70's. It was popularized in the 80's for a brief time before settling back in the underground. The American sister-genre of Goth Rock is called Deathrock.

As a person, a Goth is an avid listener of Goth rock and its associated genres (deathrock, batcave, darkwave, post-punk)

False ideas about Goth:
"Goths are such because they like the darker side of things."
"Goth is about individuality."

"Goth is about expressing yourself."
"Goth is about worshiping Satan."
"Goth is about metal."

goth

A label that most people puts on another who wears dark,(preferably black), clothes. Unfortunately, it is a label on someone's exterior and not how they are like.

I am not exactly sure how that label came to be, but I suppose every kind of style needs labeling so society can judge everyone by their clothing.
I have to say a few words about this. My whole family started to question me because of what I was wearing. . And my uncle thought I was goth. So, my sadistic uncle got a laptop computer out and looked up the definition of:

Emo - A topic that we were talking about when someone thought I was that.

Preppy Goth - My mom wants me to be a prep, but she would really rather settle for this. Umm. . No.

Goth - Main topic of conversation.

I thought I would include that because that is most of the reason why I am defining this, and an example of how lame it is,(I find it a priviledge to have the courage to be different, but it is very difficult when closed minded people such as my family shut you out, give you a hard time, label you, or try to change you), to not wear something from Abercrombie and Fitch or a store that doesn't have the *in* stuff. People tend to over react about them. .

goth

goth: Sans history lesson, goths fall into two categories:
1. People, usually quiet misfits, who are often quite intelligent and creative. They tend to focus on the darker side of life, particularly human nature.
2. more common High school/college students who, by dressing in black and listening to heavy metal, attempt to make sure everyone around them is aware of how cool and individualistic they are. That their individualism centers on dressing, thinking, and acting like everyone else in the clique doesn't seem to bother them. Can often be found writing bad psuedo-suicidal poetry in wirebound notebooks. They usually drop the facade as soon as they realize that no one around them, including their parents, is shocked any more.

1. "Hey, see the goth over there? Go ask to see her artwork. It's really cool."
2. "Ohmigod, did you, like, read the new Anne Rice book? I am, like, so glad I'm a goth!"

Goths

Right, I'm readin all the negative definitions on here about goths and most of them are probably by people who have never held a real conversation with one.

Am I a goth? No I don't consider myself one. The fact that I wear a leather trench, madfish boots and prominently black, does that make me a Goth? I am not a Satanist though, in fact my faith is a little similar to Christianity, but loosley. I have friends from all kinds of tastes - friends that are into the whole r'n'b + hiphop, peple who you could call neds, goths, emo, punk, and these so called 'normals'.

I am a very happy person and do not want to kill myself and have no intention of ever cutting myself, and neither do my friends. Yes I do think about death but only because, in actual fact, it is rather interesting because we have no idea what's going to happen. You can have your own opinion of course but no one really knows. It's fun to come up with theories, and it's a good source of conversation.

If you were to find me on a saturday in Glasgow and to have a conversation or hang about with me and my friends who get called 'goths' on a regular basis, you would probably find our company more enjoyable than the one you keep just now, not because I'm being arrogant or anything, but we don't care what you look like or what you're into, as long as you open minded and friendly.

So, basically, a goth to me is someone into a culture of sorts. A culture of romance for some, immense music and complete hyperness, but also with intelligent conversation every now and then (in my case more often than not courtesy of the almighty bryan). Most goths I know are not depressed or suicidal, but if you were to go up ask them, then it will iritate, so that's probably why you got a mouthfull or a growler. There's nothing wrong with goths, or gothic romanticism or anything like that. And anyone can get depressed, not just goths.
Goths hangin bout together: *enter laughing, joking and
randomness here*
Neds turn up: "Aw look at that mahn. Pure mad depressed
goffs int it mahn."
Goths: *now annoyed* Moronic tube
