denial

A psychological defense mechanism initiated by the psyche to temporarily suppress awareness of a deluded self-concept.

Denial may be understood as an attempt to reject unacceptable feelings, needs, thoughts, wishes, or even a painful external reality that alters our perception of ourselves. This psychological defense mechanism protects us temporarily from:
* Knowledge (things we don’t want to know)
* Insight or awareness that threatens our self-esteem; or our mental or physical health; or our security (things we don't want to think about)
* Unacceptable feelings (things we don’t want to feel)

Some of the forms of denial: rationalization, minimizing or discounting, evasion and displacement, exaggerated emotional responses, projection or blaming, intellectualization, repression, rhetorical ploys, and logical fallacies.

"I won't think about that today" was Scarlet O'Hara's use of repression as a form of denial. (from Gone With The Wind)

"I only drink beer, not the hard stuff so it's no big deal" is Joe's use of minimizing as a form of denial.

Buyers Denial Syndrome

AKA BDS. its a cause of a customer buying a product and it turns out to be a faulty product or a product that was under the expectation of the customer who recieved it.

Instead of the customer A. returning the product to the company for a better one. or B. realize that they have been duped and count their losses. They instead lie to themselves that the product was supposed to do this all along and that this is a good product knowing that it is a bad lackluster investment in a product.

-Can you believe he told me that in madden? the uniforms are not a big deal and also that player doing a moonwalk on the field is just a planned patch from EA coming soon?

-yeah he suffers from Buyers Denial Syndrome. Probably thinks that superman returns should have been game of the year too....

I started bodybuilding and bulked up to 250 pounds. I had the full denial beard going on. But in the end I couldn't hide from myself anymore. I had to transition.

A durial321 is where some one becomes god of a game for an hour. Durial321 is/was a Runescape player due to a glitch in construction he was allowed to kill players out of the wildernessand they couldnt fight back, so he went on a mega killing spree, and became a legend althought this was considered glitch abuse and he is now banned. He got a Green Party Hat and other valuable items off this though. Some people hate him some people love him.
