Shade Tree Mechanic

A person willing to learn and perform scheduled maintenance or simple repairs on their own vehicle rather than being completely reliant on technicians who may be dishonest, careless, or ignorant.

Many automakers have realized that dealer service is profitable and have designed vehicles to be irreparable by independent or shade tree mechanics.

Shade Tree Mechanic

Casual mechanics who fix or modify cars using tools and techniques that are frequently improper or not "by the book".

Tool boxes include zip ties, they use chrome sockets on an impact driver, don't own a torque wrench, and probably learned how to fix cars from a buddy, youtube, forum posts, or by doing.
How many foot lbs of torque? Just twist it until its "goodandtight". We're shade tree mechanics, not Ford technicians

Shade Tree Mechanic

Anyone, while trying to fix an automobile, actually does more damage instead of fixing the problem
Doug is a Shade Tree Mechanic because he done broke his car again

Shade Tree Mechanic

An individual who can preform car repairs and maintenance for a fraction of the cost if those same services were done at a dealership. The Shade Tree Mechanic, more commonly known simply as "Shade Tree" is very knowledgeable of how to service most domestic vehicles manufactured before 1995. Any vehicle manufactured after 1995 and import vehicles in particular are problematic for Shade Tree; however, Shade Tree will tell you otherwise.

Shade Tree operates from his own driveway or in front of his house on the street. Ideally, the service work is preformed beneath a tree with a large canopy providing necessary shade during hot summer days hence, the title "Shade Tree."

Be advised, the Shade Tree does not possess any metric tools, uses vise-grip pliers in practically every repair situation and will require you make multiple trips to the auto parts store to replace things inadvertently damaged by the apologetic Shade Tree during the service repair process.

Most shade trees will barter and accept various forms of payment including cash, a carton of cigarettes, liquor, Wendy's or Burger King.
Joe: I need new brakes for my car but the dealership wants over $400.00
Mike: Bruh, go around the corner and holla at that Shade Tree Mechanic. He'll hook you up for a pack of squares and some Chick-fil-A.

flophouse

Any house/apartment/frat house/trailer/etc. which is used for individuals to crash (sleep, chill, hang out, lurk, etc.) for a period of time. In order to "crash", one must not actually live there (e.g. have their name on the lease, own said flophouse, etc.). Flophouses are typically used by college students, drug addicts, transients, vagrants, or other unsavory characters.

A flophouse may also be the home owned by the parents of a college student, who after being away at college, wishes to live as if he/she is still at college (e.g. staying out all night, returning just to crash at mom and dad's house, then leaving again), rather than conforming to the pre-college rules.
Example #1
Dude: (Talking to someone passed out face first on the floor of his college apartment) Hey man, who the hell are you? What do you think this is, a flophouse??

Bro: Sorry dude, I must have passed out for a minute.

Example #2
Mom: Where have you BEEN for the last three days? You come home just to sleep?? What do you think this is, a flophouse??!!

Son: What's your problem? I'm an adult now!

Hate Sink

A person you hate intensely not because they deserve such hatred but because they serve as a focus for your general hatred. A healthy way to dispense with excess animosity.
Jake's not really that big an asshole. He just serves as my hate sink.
