petroleum jelly. Other commonyms include, Band-Aid, ChapStick, Popsicle, and Q-tip.
Some former trademarks have become generic terms after a long life as commonyms, such as aspirin (formerly
trademarked by Bayer) and escalator (a former trademark of the Otis Elevator Company.)
