shower, shake, and shit

While the phrase can be used to describe the literal acts of showering, drinking a protein shake, and shitting (in that order). It's main usage serves as a broad descriptor for one's daily ritual or routine, which often involves bathing, eating, and excreting.

Historically speaking, the 'shit' came before the 'shower'. However, the fact is that the shake (or food intake), must come before defecation can occur. In the event of multiple shit shower shake sequences, the 'shit' will still come before the 'shower' (see below), thus cleanliness is achieved and the natural order of occurrence is maintained.

shit, shave, shower and shine 

Originating in the U.S. Army of WWII, this is the shorthand slogan to describe the hygiene preparation an enlisted soldier must do to ready himself for a military inspection by superiors.

"Shine" refers to the careful and thorough polishing of one's black military boots.

Now it has entered civilian use to mean preparation for any important social event in which one must look good, often abbreviated nowadays to just "shit, shave and shower".

Soldier 1: "We've got an inspection later today from the brass."

Soldier 2: "Guess it's time to shit, shave, shower and shine."

Shit Before Showering 

A lesson some people may have to Lear the hard way. When someone has a really bad shit but then has to take a shower ( usually during Shit, Shower, Shave time.) and while taking the shower, they must endure the smell of poop for however long their shower is.

Dude 1: damn it smells in here! Next time I'd better shit before showering.
