A small town in
Iowa.
Burlignton was once a bustling port in the steamboat era. It sits on the Mississippi River in south eastern
Iowa, on the Illinois border. Burlington has a
deep hisstory.
Population around 25,000 - 30,000.
One public high
school, a somewaht run-down mall, a not so active downtown. A new complex with a hotel, virtual bowling, restaurants, a few nice bars, a waterpark, etcetera.
The high
school has been having problems for years, fightinhg, drop-outs, teen pregnancy, you name it.
Quite a bit of weed and drinking.
Most people go out on the river in the summer.
Most of the population under 25 wants out of the town. A small community college is on the west side of town.
A few religious private schools are in the area.
It's an alright town for middle-ages people, I suppose.
Very
blue-collar, few professional occupations unless you work in medicine.
There is a new hospital and a new casino.
It's got the standard franchise places.
A Supercenter Wal-Mart
A Kmart, Shopko, Super Target, Hy-Vee,
Casey's, Walgreens, Aldi.
Has the regular
Iowa-small town feel, lots of fields, friendly people, pick-up trucks..
Not half-bad if you didn't grow up here or if you didn't go to the high
school.
