power outage banter

Unusual conversation with family, friends or neighbors after loss of electricity following a big storm or natural disaster. Starts innocuously then devolves into random talk driven by nerves.
After the lights went out, I spoke with neighbors I never even met. The power outage banter started with what happened, then ended-up with weird and unrelated topics. Now we just smile a little when we see each other.

drive-by donating

Giving cash to homeless people at the roadside. Best to give bills/coins while traffic is stopped, but more challenging if done on the move. Looks pretty smooth and cool to other drivers if done correctly; usually at slow speed and not holding up traffic. The recipient is demonstrably thankful.
After the light changed, the motorist in front if me was drive-by donating. Handed off a few bills to a homeless person on the median while going about 15 MPH.

bleached corpses

Spirits of the dead who attempted ambitious projects, but failed miserably. They are horribly lifeless ghosts who expect nothing but failure.
In a Charlie Rose interview, Sting nervously joked about the presence of bleached corpses hovering around the stage as he prepared songs for his first musical, The Last Ship.

rubber crumbs

Small granules of recycled tires used to pad artificial turf athletic fields or playground surfaces. The crumbs are a bigger and softer than grains of sand. A good way to use recycled used tires.
"I could feel rubber crumbs flying around my legs when I ran the 40-yard dash in my flip-flops."

Reporter: "Drowsy driving has become a big safety problem on our highways."

"My friend works a lot of hours, and is always tired. I tried to make him aware of the drowsy driving issue."

credit card denied

When you go to purchase something with a credit card, and you're notified that it's not going through. Usually due to an expired card or you're over the limit.
Waitress: "Sorry sir. Credit card denied."

Diner: "Oh, crap."
