synecdoche

A figure of speech in which a part is made to represent the whole, or vice versa, as in "Washington WINS!!!"

It should be made clear that "Washington" in this regard is a synecdoche for "Wahington Capitals Lacross Team".

A golf ball that after being struck, lands in water (pond, lake, stream, ocean).

Announcer: That ball was hit far right, and is headed towards the creek! He'll be VERY lucky if that does'nt end up "a rinsed ball"!
