bad brain day

A day when nothing anyone says to you makes sense, nothing you say makes sense to anyone else (including yourself), following directions proves problematic and items which should be readily locatable cannot be found (or are found only after much searching on top of one's head).

I knew it was going to be a bad brain day when I finally located my keys in the drawer where I always keep them, my glasses on top of my head, and remembered only after entering the now empty garage that my wife had earlier mentioned that it was her yoga day, which meant she was taking the car.

adj. (slang): A combined state of mental agitation and physical volatility. It's use may provide warning that the individual it describes has lost all self-control and cannot be reasoned with. Can refer to either a chronic or temporary condition.

antediluvian

Pertaining to the period of time before the catastrophic eruption of Thea, about 1600-1500 BCE, the resultant tsunamis of which are believed to have caused the downfall of the Minoan civilization. This event is thought by many to be the basis of Plato's story of Atlantis. The word literally means "before the flood." From the Latin ante (before) + diluvium (flood).

In antediluvian times it was Minoan culture that dominated the islands of the Aegean.

Shock and Love

Shock and Love is that progressive political policy which seeks to use instances of crisis to further the betterment of mankind. It differs from the conservative policy of Shock and Awe which seeks to use the same instances to further empower the already powerful and to curtail the self evident liberties of the masses.

With the lives of three hundred million Americans at stake, the Obama administration, in a classic example of Shock and Love, was able to use the panic created by the flu pandemic to force Senate Republicans to do the right thing and confirm Kathleen Sibelius as Secretary of Health and Human Services.

altar ego

The specific deity or religious persona one wishes to identify with for reasons of spiritual growth. So called, because an image of such is often displayed prominently upon one's own personal altar.

Being of a compassionate nature, the young woman felt a great affinity for White Tara and so displayed a beautiful image of her altar ego prominently in her shrine room.
