UK useage.

The police in an area notorius for it's highcrime rate eg Whitechapel in East London, The Barton Hill area of Bristol, Bootle in Liverpool, the cornish town of Bude etc.

So called because said police see themselves as the only thing preventing an out break of anarchy
With 19 muggings, 34 assaults, 4 street fights, 7 car jackings, a rape, a murder and only 6 police the thin blue line is being streached tonight.

A genius, the best in his or her field.

Named after the famous wheelchair bound scientist.
David knew his research into the anatomy of atomic structure would make him a real Stephan Hawkins

kentucky fried mouse 

UK slang

Any fast food chain that is lapse in it's standards of service. Term derives from an infamous incident at a Bristol KFC in the 1980's when Kentucy Fried Mouse was indeed on the menu.
I'm feeling peckish, I'm gonna pop out for a kentucky Fried Mouse.
