What a doctor shruggingly remarks when someone requests a different-from-the-standard-practice procedure for stitching up a wound, and said physician cannot see what difference said alternative method would make, but wants to accommodate the patient whenever possible.

"Suture self," said the surgeon, when I asked him to use cotton sewing-thread instead of synthetic-fiber floss.

squallor

How ANY living conditions --- no matter how good --- will appear to a petulantly-blubbering person who never seems to be satisfied no matter how hard others try to appease him.

Ethan Couch was a classic example of someone living in "squallor" --- he was given a lavish lifestyle and his family had money "up da wazoo and back", and yet he was still never really happy.

refurbished lousewort

A plant of the endangered species Pedicularis furbishiae which has been carefully dug up, potted and transported to the sunny shelter of a greenhouse to help it grow bigger and stronger, and then re-planted in its original spot back in the wild.

Now that so many refurbished lousewort plants have been re-introduced into the coastal woodlands of Maine and New Brunswick, there are more of the lovely yellow cat's-paw-like blossoms for folks to enjoy.

cotterize

To temporarily bind up a wound with split-shanked metal pins.

I can see someone's needing to cotterize a tear in sheet-metal or other fairly-tough-material paneling when making an emergency repair, but I would think that using a needle and thread would be a much more effective --- and safer --- method of choice when administering a field-dressing for a human or other living creature.

A biblical chapter recounting an early history of a group of islands in the southeast-Asian area of the Pacific.

I don't know why the Book of Philippines is even included in the Bible, since most events recounted there took place in the Middle East and Africa, not in southeastern Asia.

An assumed name dat you use so dat you can wet yer pipe at a pub where dey otherwise wouldn't serve you if dey knew yer real identity, either because you're underage or because you haven't paid your tab in a while.

I've never touched a drop of alcohol in my life and never intend to, so there would be no reason for me to ever use an aleias.
