Selling Out

A rather obsolete term people use to describe bands that have become more mainstream/commercial, usually after signing to a major label. Of course, just because a band has become more mainstream doesn't mean they've 'sold out'- it just means they have more money to spend on professional recordings, greater exposure, etcetera. And as long as a band does not prioritise money over their artistic vision then they should not be accused of wrongdoing. And the fact is, the majority of people who accuse bands of selling out are just irate at the fact that their music is no longer exclusive to them and the niche audience that they can brag about being a part of. So long as money exists people will always have a reason to accuse a band of being in cahoots with men in black suits. Besides, a lot of landmark albums in specific genres have been released when a band had signed to a major label. A band can't help it if their music appeals to the mainstream, so give them a break. And the only artists who should be accused of selling out are those manufactured by heartless record execs with a fetish for money, not those who set out to be a band and sign to a major to gain greater exposure and the recognition they deserve. At the end of the day, everyone's a sellout anyway: we all support the establishment whether we intend to or not, so don't forget that next time you target another band with the 'selling out' ethos.

Dude 1: God, why are you listening to Green Day? they've totally sold out since signing to Warner Bros. You should listen to the Sex Pistols, at least they're not some commercial wannabe rock band.
Dude 2: You do realise that the Sex Pistols were signed to EMI, Virgin and even Warner Bros. right?
Dude 1: (remains silent)
Dude 2: Exactly... so your 'selling out' arguments a bit naive isn't it?

Satan

According to Christianity, Satan was originally an angel who rebelled against God (power to the people!) and also influenced Adam and Eve to eat the fruit of knowledge- which implies that had they of not eaten it, then we might not have possessed the knowledge to question authority. Ultimately, Satan was thrown into the lake of fire with his other followers- which also implies that Satan is a victim too in all of this, and considering he braved god's wrath to question the lord's divine authority- it says a lot about how Satan should be perceived, and that Satan might have had decent intentions after all. Of course, this is all subject to whether you have religious ideals- in which case, you might want to consider which being you're supporting :P

Satan's ultimate goal is to lead people away from the love of God, and to lead them into fallacies which God opposes- or if you look at it another way, fallacies which mean God no longer has control over you- some of these fallacies are listed below:

Premarital sex: A normal desire for human beings, and it should not be perceived as a sinful. Everyone has the right to love their body and the body of others, providing they realise what sex entails and that they are aware of any implications that follow the activities they are parcitipating in.

Drugs: As we know, some drugs are very dangerous for the body and mind- but naturally occuring drugs such as weed and hallucinogens can lead to experiencing alternative perceptions of reality, and providing necessary precautions are taken, this can lead to positive realisations about yourself and the world you live in. And may also result in a more independent mindset- which would be bad for God, understandably...

Rock Music: Opposed by hardcore Christians, Rock music is actually celebratory of everything that makes us human- and is known for championing complex ideas (seen in art rock, etcetera) and anti- authority ideals. Again, bad for God...

In all, there are lots of things perceived as sinful by Christianity- most of these are merely aspects which contribute to our independence and rights as a human being.

pulling lint

Boredom- to the point where even home conforts and personal interests have lost all appeal. Can lead to impulsive behaviour and the need to get away as the person in question tries to rid themselves of continual periods of inactivity. The title refers to pulling lint from ones clothing.

I've been pulling lint for weeks now ever since I lost my job, even the things I used to enjoy have now been rendered uninteresting and tedious.

Society

A very hypocritical state of affairs which affects everyone involved in it (usually negatively). Society teaches us that everyone should be independent- yet those that are become disillusioned, eventually learning that they would have been better off selling out to fit in with everyone else, to avoid the discrimination and prejudice of sharing views contrary to that of the majority. Society also teaches us that we have rights and freedom- in reality, we only have the freedom to obey the standards society sets for us, otherwise we are wrongfully discriminated against once we begin to challenge the standards in question. Society tells us that we should be proud of who we are- yet somehow if we dont look above average, then we are prejudiced against for not looking acceptable and taking pride in our appearance. Society also tells us that we should be respectful, nice and have manners towards to each other- yet those that do eventually realise that they will receive no merit for doing so, as the people who eschew this standard get all the perks, and the genuinely decent person draws the short straw for not being assertive enough in trying to get what they want. Society is also influenced by all the forces that corrupt humanity- war, money, religion, the media etcetera because of the number of people that can be manipulated from those that manage these forces.

To all those that say we should give back to society, I say this: society is making your children obese and anorexic, and making them have adult ideas at an age they should enjoy being a kid. Society thinks the ideal way to cure someone of commiting an offence is to lock them up in a cell for a long period of time, despite the fact most criminals end up re-offending once released. Society believes that it is still necessary to arrest people for marijuana possession, despite the fact the laws against it from a scientific standpoint are laughable, and that experiencing substances is human nature, and no form of prohibition against them will prevent people from doing so. So in short, society is a system which aims to unite the masses, but instead ends up alienating the very people it brings together. My advice? FUCK SOCIETY

Modern Music

From what it means and symbolises in our culture today, 'modern' music is nothing more than commercialised crap worshipped by those that cant comprehend the effort put into REAL music. Modern music is often the work of fat greedy managers churning out the sassy stylised crap in the hopes of increasing their bank balance. On the other hand, you could see it as a global conspiracy wherein the government is acting through the music industry to prevent bands who could deliver important social messages and revolutionary ideas from ever being successful and putting the control of the masses via the government in jeopardy. Your choice. Modern music described in the form above usually appeared after late 2006, and the only bands that dont fall into this category include bands who either started off before the 21st century and have remained successful to this day, or a few notable exceptions such as MGMT, Beach House, and a few other decent bands I have yet to discover. Unfortunately, the current music scene will continue to churn out this garbage and drown out decent bands who could bring forth a new musical revolution etcetera... so unfortunately for now, its here to stay :'(

Dont you just wish music today was made by bombed out rock stars high on drugs with tons of groupies instead of shitty corporate whores and managers who are only in it for the financial gain... pity the underdog, for modern music represents the latter :/
