Modern Music

From what it means and symbolises in our culture today, 'modern' music is nothing more than commercialised crap worshipped by those that cant comprehend the effort put into REAL music. Modern music is often the work of fat greedy managers churning out the sassy stylised crap in the hopes of increasing their bank balance. On the other hand, you could see it as a global conspiracy wherein the government is acting through the music industry to prevent bands who could deliver important social messages and revolutionary ideas from ever being successful and putting the control of the masses via the government in jeopardy. Your choice. Modern music described in the form above usually appeared after late 2006, and the only bands that dont fall into this category include bands who either started off before the 21st century and have remained successful to this day, or a few notable exceptions such as MGMT, Beach House, and a few other decent bands I have yet to discover. Unfortunately, the current music scene will continue to churn out this garbage and drown out decent bands who could bring forth a new musical revolution etcetera... so unfortunately for now, its here to stay :'(
Dont you just wish music today was made by bombed out rock stars high on drugs with tons of groupies instead of shitty corporate whores and managers who are only in it for the financial gain... pity the underdog, for modern music represents the latter :/

pulling lint

Boredom- to the point where even home conforts and personal interests have lost all appeal. Can lead to impulsive behaviour and the need to get away as the person in question tries to rid themselves of continual periods of inactivity. The title refers to pulling lint from ones clothing.
I've been pulling lint for weeks now ever since I lost my job, even the things I used to enjoy have now been rendered uninteresting and tedious.

summer of love

Most usually refers to:

1. The summer of love in San Francisco in 1967, when over 100 000 people converged on the Haight- Ashbury neighbourhood to create a phenomenon of cultural and political revolution. During this time it became the epicenter of the hippie revolution... consisting of free love, psychoactive drugs, sexual freedom, music and free expression. Often considered a social experiment because of the newly emerging lifestyle trends. The term 'psychedelic' is best used to describe the associated atmosphere.

2. The summers of love in the United Kingdom during 1988-89, which saw the exlosion of the acid house movement and the subsequent rave culture. The free warehouse parties, smiley symbol, and the club drug Ecstasy symbolized this summer of love, which is often described as being more hedonistic and indulgent than it's psychedelic counterpart. Although, this summer was partially ruined by the paranoia of the press, who slammed the movement for its use of the word acid: which did not actually refer to the drug LSD, but rather the style of borrowing lyrics, an act referred to as 'acid burning'. However, the press caught the wrong side of this and described the movement as a satanic cult which encouraged the use of drugs- and because of this the once abundant raves faded into the limelight. The term 'second summer of love' has been used to refer to this time.

3. Although it never caught any significant recognition apart from a newspaper article, the alleged 'third summer of love' apparently took place in 2004 - due to the legal loophole which made unprepared magic mushrooms legal to the public. Coverage on the 'third summer of love' was made at Glastonbury, where the festival was fuelled by amongst other things, magic mushrooms. However, the actuality of this summer of love is under much debate, and is probably a pun on the media's behalf.

4. A romance or relationship which can lasts over any specific summer. Sometimes referred to as a 'summer of love' by the couple in question.
'Some people say the next summer of love will take place in 2009 because of the 21 year gap between the two original summers of love, but I remain doubtful there will ever be a summer of love anytime soon :/'

love rush

Most likely happens in places of social interaction: a term to describe that moment when you and another person of interest have aquired such affection for each other in the shortest amount of time thought possible, that you simply engage in any adrenaline fueled sexual contact regardless of the reactions and responses of those around you...
"I went to a club last night and had a major love rush- this girl who was practically my female equal had one too, and just couldn't keep her hands of me. Soon enough we were copulating in the club toilets :P" Joking lol... that was an example :P

Jack White

A truly great guitarist and member of the rock duo The White Stripes (which he formed along with Meg White), The Raconteurs and The Dead Weather. Jack's skills on guitar and penchant for the Digitech Whammy use during his solos, combined with Meg's simple yet effective drumming capture a very primal sound, immersed in the bands unique punk/blues fusion. Has an appreciation (along with Meg) for the Dutch art movement De Stijl, which influenced the trademark colour scheme and dynamics of the bands music and on-stage appearence. Also demonstrates that less is more is still a valid technical standpoint. He is also a talented songwriter, and is quite possibly the modern equivalent of the guitar gods of old, frequently being ranked as one of the greatest guitar players of recent times. Long live Jack White :)

Acidious

Basically a more modern equivalent of the word 'psychedelic'. Describes anything that has a hallucinogenic or surreal quality. The word 'Acidious' itself refers to acid, the slang/street name of LSD.
Dude 1: Whoa, check out the patterns on that girls top...
Dude 2: How acidious...
Dude 1: Amen brother.

nice guy

The nice guy is the tragic hero in relationships:
He's the one that will stand by a woman all his life, despite the fact the woman will never care for him the way he does for her. She will bitch to him about her failing conquests, use him as a makeshift therapist and shun his efforts to initiate a relationship. Whilst she continues to live in sin the guy will beat himself up over why he has not been able to maintain a relationship, continually asking why his efforts are in vain and why women no longer appreciate gentlemen. When the woman is finally ready to settle down she will crawl back to the nice guy, knowing that he will accept her despite everything because he would do anything for her. Eventually the nice guy realises that his love life has been a hollow victory, and that he would have been better off as the shallow, arrogant jerks the woman pursued in the first place. Sucks doesn't it...

Gentlemen have become a dying breed, because women are not prepared to save them.
Girl 1: All I'm looking for is a nice guy who actually cares about me...
Girl 2: Sure, whatever you say there...
