One of four Demosthean phrases of "otherness", varelse is of an extraterrestrial race with whom no communication or understanding is possible, and therefore war is often inevitable.

Before The Hive Queen was written, humans considered buggers to be varelse.

Bugger

Slang term for a Formic, an insect-like alien race from the book Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card. Formics were often called buggers because they resembled ants to some degree, and a hive-like reporductive strategy.

It was all up to Ender to destroy the buggers forever.

Military term, it stands for Active Duty for Special/Support Work. Usually referring to someone in the National Guard or Reserves being activated for a short period of time, such as a few days or weeks, for some special duty.

SPC Johnson is on ADSW orders to do some admin bitch work because all of the paperwork is screwed up.
