Ankle

The mother of a child born out of wedlock. An unfortunate creature. Referrs to her low station. more modern definitions refer to the undisputable fact that an ankle is two feet lower than... An interesting survivor of the last 200 years. First reference to its use in this context believed to have been about 1795.

Caps, especially precussion caps for priming one's gat (gun). Originated in Cockney rhyming slang.

Beans

Five dollar gold pieces. (Five dollar pieces were about the size of small butterbeans or Lima beans.)

Autumn Bawler

A parson, especially a missionary sent by a wealthy congregation into an impoverished neighborhood to "uplift" or Save the population without feeding them first.

I had to listen to that Autumn Bawler for two hours before dey fed me.

Flogged. This term commonly used in the criminal underworld in the days when flogging was still a legal punishment in this country, it is still occasionaly used in gay and straight SM circles.

I was anointed in the Tombs after I got fresh wid de turnscrew.
