Penny for your thoughts?

1. Old phrase that means: What are you thinking? Technically it means: I'll give you a penny if you tell me what you are thinking. It's silly to give a penny or receive one for your thoughts so no one ever does. Peter Frampton used it for the title of his guitar instrumental that can be heard on Frampton Comes Alive.
Penny for your thoughts? Um...let's eat?

OK!

Franc for your thoughts

A simple way of asking what's on someone's mind, and a way of giving their thoughts credit if the person is feeling down. Used in the movie Casablanca.

It's important to note that in America, our thoughts are only worth a penny.
Ilsa: Franc for your thoughts?
Rick: *chuckles* In America, they're only worth a penny.

Penny for your thoughts

When you get blackout drunk and end the night with a spectacular performance of Irish Yoga unbeknownst to you with your face firmly pressed against a shinny copper penny. Then proceed to present to work the next morning with said shiny copper penny still adhered to your massively hung over forehead.
April - Hey Caleb can I give you a penny for your thoughts?

Caleb - sure whats up?

April - never mind I see you already have one.
