Taking from the achievers and giving to lazy people. Keeping the populace under the government's thumb.

A socialist is someone who stands for free health care, education and overall better social health and quality of life. This does not involve an unrealistic 'take from the rich, give to the poor' notion, but alternative fiscal and monetary policies to ensure a healthy nation, not just a healthy economy.

Not to be confused with communism, which offers little incentives for people to work.
Julia: Our public hospitals are over crowded, under funded and under staffed.
Bob: If poor people get sick it's their own damned fault. Gimme more high end tax cuts!

Ben: Socialists are just hippie communists!
Bill: *smack*

In present-day US conservative media circles, a code word to skirt Federal Communications Commission restrictions on the use of the word 'nigger.' Often used pertaining to the person and/or policies of President Barack Obama.
Inbred Zeke: "Looky there on the FOX News....any doubt that boy's a socialist? What's that boy doing in the WHITE House, anyhow?"

Zeke's BrUncle: "Socialist, Hell! That there's a nigger!! "

Inbred Zeke: "Sociaist, nigger...same difference. They just have to be nice about it on the TV."

A human being who believes that the most harmonious state of affairs would be for all to get a fair shot at financial sucess. This belief is not motivated by his own selfishness as a capitalist would have you think, but is in actuality an honorable difference of opinion. In the 1930's farmers in the mid west were plowing their corn under because it was unprofitable, and at the same time millions across America were starving. Capitalists see this as logical, while socialists find it abhorrent. In short, socialism is about production for use, not profit.
Everyone calls me a socialist because I think universal health care is more important than Ross Perot having 28 cars.

A person who thinks that the hard working people should share their paychecks with their lazy neighbors, just because they have more money. Even though they worked hard for their money, they should still give it to their neighbor who sits on their couch watching tv all day, because it wouldn't be FAIR if the hard worker had more money.

Socialists also tend to think that the hard working people should pay for their lazy neighbor to go to the hospital as well. Kind of like Barack Obama. Even though the lazy neighbor is completely useless and spent their Obama Check on beer and cigarettes, hardworking people should pay for their healthcare. The hardworking person only wants to keep their money because they're a greedy asshole, not because they worked hard for it or anything.
My neighbor gets 2000 dollars from the government every month because "his back hurts." Yet he spends his entire day out in his backyard, building a treehouse, a go-cart, and other projects. And Barack Obama wants me to pay for his healthcare now as well as his backyard projects. Fuck you, Obama, Pirate Socialist in Chief.

A word Republicans often use as a scare tactic against their rivals, the Democrats. The Democrats ignore the term and don't defend themselves. They afraid to explain that Socialism is OK in small amounts, because then they will be called communist.
Example:

Republican : Reform! That sounds like Socialism. You are a Socialist. If your in office, America will become a communist country.

Democrat: * looks around uncomfortably*

One who believes that the fruits of your labor belong to everyone else but you. Most favor high taxes to support a bloated nanny state that strips you of your rights in the name of security. Ironically these high taxes hurt the working man whom they champion. Advocates of this doctrine generally use rifles and rhetoric in political debates. They generally consider the US Constitiution as an obtacle to be overcome. Not to be confused with Democrats(Altough there are many similarities.)
Ivan: Hey Ted, hows it going?
Ted: Not bad, the new socialistgovernment just took my paycheck to help build a 10 mile bridge to an unpopulated island.
Ivan: You couldn't buy anything anyway, the government controlled economy doesn't produce consumer goods.
