In corporate America, an employee who is both admired and scorned because he or she has risen to a level of high rank and pay whilst doing little to nothing because of preternatural luck and an innate ability to hide in plain sight.

There are many proper definitions for the word riser.

As a noun.
1. A person who rises, esp. from bed: to be an early riser.

2. The vertical face of a stair step.

3. Any of a group of long boards or narrow platforms that can be combined in stepwise fashion: The choir stood on a horseshoe of risers behind the orchestra.

4. A vertical pipe, duct, or conduit.

riser burn 

Abrasions on the side of the neck that US Army Paratroopers may sometimes get as the result of their parachute risers coming into contact with their neck during the deployment of their parachute.

This is experienced mainly by inexperienced jumpers who don't know to keep their chin on their chest when they exit an aircraft, or by badasses who like to look up to actually watch their parachute canopy as it deploys and opens and don't mind a little riser burn in order to do that.
