As gay people traditionally have been in the minority in society, there's usually only one gay person per friendship group (outside of a queer community) AKA the 'resident gay'.
Girl - "I don't know if this dress makes me fat or not"
Other - "Check with the resident gay Joel, he'll tell you bae."
Other - "Check with the resident gay Joel, he'll tell you bae."
