offside trap

n. Defensive technique in soccer wherein the defenders closest to their own goal line all move simultaneously toward their opponents goal line just before an opponent boots the ball downfield. The object is to deliberately place any possible recipients of the pass in an offside position, and to allow soccer enthusiasts, who love to have their enjoyment interrupted by questions, the opportunity to again attempt to educate hockey fans on the nuances of the beautiful game.

Why did the whistle blow? He was totally in the clear!

To take something small, that doesn't quite qualify as a theft. Probably from the Danish "skæv" or the Dutch "scheef", both of which are pronounced similarly, meaning "askew, or not quite right'. To change an item's ownership without permission, but only something small and of little worth.
"I skeefed an apple off the neighbor's tree." "I skeefed some chips outta your bag when you looked away." "Don't skeef my chair when I go to the bathroom."
