Not to be confused with shyness.

ntroversion is a temperament. it's inbuild and cannot be changed. It makes up the special you. Introverted people gain their energy from their own, complexed inner world, and tend to feel exhausted when they have to interact A LOT with people. (exrtoverted people gain their energy from the people around them)Whereas shyness is a form of anxiety. It's when you worry about what people will think, say or do about you if you do something. It's a symptom caused by many many factors, while Introversion is JUST YOU.
I'm a very introverted person. Though I tend to be charismatic, and people gather around me. I'm very lonely, and tend to only enjoy being with myself, and learning about myself. I have to think a lot because my brain uses its frontal lobe, and stores things in my long term memory bank. AS you know I'm American, and I live in a very extroverted society. Where fast talk, and acting on impulse is valued more than careful planning, and meaniful thinking.

An introvert prefers to spend time alone in order to recharge their inner being. An introvert may appear to be shy to others, but that is not necessarily an accurate label. Being among groups of friends, family and even strangers can be wonderfully stimulating and joyous occasions. Interacting with people and attention to multiple sources of stimuli tends to draw down an introvert's energy causing them to eventually withdraw to spend time alone to re-energize. Small talk and pointless conversations tend to draw down an introvert's energy rapidly.
An introvert enjoys time alone without unwanted distractions and stimulation in order to recharge their inner strength.

Typically, the person that no one understands. Introverts are often commercialized into the people who "sit at home watching Netflix all day." On the contrary, the real introvert is the person who thinks deeply, keeps to themselves, and feels depleted by social situations. The opposite of an introvert is an extrovert.
1. In a society where socialization is strongly encouraged, introverts struggle to be accepted.
2. Because she was an introvert and preferred to stay at home, others looked down upon her habits.
3. It was hard for the introvert to explain to people that she hated parties.

Opposite of extrovert. A person who is energized by spending time alone. Often found in their homes, libraries, quiet parks that not many people know about, or other secluded places, introverts like to think and be alone.

Contrary to popular belief, not all introverts are shy. Some may have great social lives and love talking to their friends but just need some time to be alone to "recharge" afterwards. The word "Introvert" has negative connotations that need to be destroyed. Introverts are simply misunderstood because the majority of the population consists of extroverts.
Extrovert: Oh my god, you're so shy! You need to get out more!
Introvert: But it's so draining - I don't have a problem with going out; I just want to stay at home and read sometimes, y'know?

Jesse is an introvert. He doesn't mind staying home on a Friday night.

A person who gains energy through low stimulus activities.

These activities can include spending time alone, reading, studying, going for a relaxing stroll or jog, etc.

Introverts are not necessarily shy and can in fact be very social, provided they have time to recharge afterwards. One defining characteristic seems to be that they feel less reward from highly social situations which is why they can loose energy, feel tired or even overwhelmed when at social events such as parties, concerts, sporting events, etc.
James Bond was an introvert. Introverts and Extroverts are both awesome and gain energy in different ways.

A very broad term that is misunderstood, but an "introvert" may contain one or more of these qualities. It pretty much comes down to choice however.

One who focuses on the inner world of thoughts and ideas.

One who gains energy from alone time, one who thinks before they speak.
"Look, I like hanging out with you, but you're making me tired ok? I'm an introvert!"
