One of the leading cognac houses of
france, along with
Remy Martin and Courvoisier. The colloquial term "Hennessey" usually refers to Hennessey V.S. -- Very Superior -- which is in essence a brandy distilled from grapes in the Cognac region of france and aged for a minimum of two years in
oak barrels. This imbues the brandy with a remarkable smoothness and complexity of flavors that is unequalled anywhere else in the world.
Hennessey also comes in a variety of other forms, from most common to rarest:
V.S. - Very Superior - minimum two years aging in
oak barrels, $40/bottle
V.S.O.P. - Very Superior Old Pale - minimum four years aging in
oak barrels, $70/bottle
X.O. -
Extra Old - minimum
six years aging in
oak barrels, $150/bottle
Paradis - proprietary blend of eaux-de-vie from the private reserves of Hennessey varying in age from 10 to
25 years, $
300/bottle
Richard Hennessey - proprietary blend of eaux-de-vie from the private reserves of Hennessey varying in age from 20 to 50 years, $1500/bottle
There also exists a very limited release of Hennessey dubbed "Timeless", of which only two thousand bottles were put on the market at an approximate value of $4000/bottle. Timeless consists of a blend of ten cognacs from the very best vintages of the last century.
