1.Buying into the illusion that you're content with someone or something in hopes that eventually you really will be. 2. Using someone as "false motivation" in a relationship, hoping they will make you happy so that you don't have to deal with your own reality.
He was trying to escape his demons, using false motivation in hopes that she would silence them.
