when a friend sends you a text message or instant message then does not reply to your response.

Last night Leah passed out after she texted me. I got drive-by texted.

When a person has ghosted someone they have had an intimate relationship with, but then shoots off random text either because they want something from them or is designed to keep them thinking it's not over when it is.

He totally ghosted his wife, but he shoots her a drive-by text once in while when he needs something.

drive-by texting 

A text message sent by someone to try to stir things up, but when a response is made, no further messages are sent.
Similar to a drive-by shooting because after the assailant has disappeared, the victim is left riled up and frustrated.

Girl (out of the blue): "Haven't missed a beat have you?"

Guy: "What makes you say that?"

An hour passes with no response

Guy: "Drive-by texting?"

drive by texter 

A texter who sends a text to a person or group. Usually subject doesn't pertain to any previous subject talked about. Random text usually just whining about something pertaining to their day usually..Doesn't respond to other conversations. They usually ghost when you respond to their plight and disappear

You Hi I made a great lunch anyone want to stop by? Drive by texter OMG I had a terrible day at work.. You what happened? Drive by texter I was sweating all day. You Wanna stop by for lunch? Drive by texter , doesn't answer
