Tyranny of Truth
A concept where a single, absolute, unquestionable “truth” is used to silence alternative perspectives, punish dissent, and justify oppression. Under the tyranny of truth, complex situations are forced into binary true/false boxes; those who see nuance or ambiguity are accused of relativism or lies. It often accompanies dogmatic ideologies, whether religious or scientific, where “Truth” is capitalised and wielded as a weapon. The tyranny of truth leaves no room for mystery, multiple interpretations, or the humility of not knowing.
Example: “He insisted that his interpretation of the text was simply The Truth, and anyone who disagreed was either stupid or dishonest—tyranny of truth, using certainty as a bludgeon.”
