Stephen Merchant

Ricky Gervais' brilliant comedy partner. Responsible for co-writing 'The Office' and 'Extras'. Often, this man's name is misspelled (see Steven Merchant). Common elements of his comedy include (but are not limited to) a quick, quirky, but good natured wit and endearingly self-deprecating anecdotes about his 'trouble with the ladies'.

More fun factoids:
•He is 6' 7"
•Wears thick, black frame glasses.
•Appeared in Season 2 of the Office (episode 4) as Gareth's friend 'Oggy'.
•Plays Ricky Gervais' awkward agent in the show 'Extras'.
•Has recently acquired a modest following of female admirers.

Girl #1: Did you see that piece of ass who just passed us?

Girl #2: Yeah, he's alright. I mean, he's no Stephen Merchant or nothin'.

Oh yeah, I forgot to sacrifice my soup to Stephen Merchant last night. Better go do it before he removes my kneecaps.

Fogey/fogy /fougi/ sl. (early 18C+, orig. Scot) old-fashioned, stuck-in-the mud.
Person with old fashioned ideas which he is unwilling to change: Come to the disco and stop being such an old fogey!
You think me an old fogeyand an old tory, his thoughtful voice said. I saw three generations since O’Connel’s time. I remember the famine. Do you know that the orange lodges agitated for repeal of the union twenty years before O’Connel did or before the prelates of your communion denounced him as a demagogue? You fenians forget some things. (James Joyce, Ulysses. Penguin Books,1992. p. 38)
