Seapretense

A portmanteau of "sealioning" and "pretense," describing a form of bad-faith interaction where instead of asking endless questions, the aggressor treats the opponent as completely wrong, delusional, insane, or mentally ill—or pretends to completely disagree with them—as a tactic to exhaust, silence, or provoke. Seapretense is sealioning's more aggressive cousin: where sealioning hides behind feigned curiosity, seapretense hides behind feigned certainty. The seapretender doesn't ask questions; they declare you crazy, they act as if your position is obviously absurd, they perform disagreement so total that any response seems futile. The goal is the same: to exhaust you into silence, to provoke you into reactions that can be screenshotted, to run the social gauntlet against you. Seapretense is particularly effective because it's harder to counter than sealioning—how do you prove you're not crazy? How do you respond to someone who's already decided you're wrong?
Example: "She tried to explain her position, but he just kept seapretending: 'You're clearly delusional.' 'Only a mentally ill person would believe that.' 'I can't even engage with this level of insanity.' No questions, no engagement—just pretense that she was obviously wrong. Seapretense had done its work: she was defending her sanity, not her argument."
