Oldmentum

Oldmentum: A phenomenon in which elderly individuals, often propelled by a forward-leaning, almost falling gait, harness a unique combination of physical momentum and perceived urgency to navigate spaces with unyielding focus, often overriding social norms of deference or spatial awareness. This behavior is sometimes amplified by narcissistic tendencies that emerge more overtly in advanced age, as the decline of physical vitality clashes with a grandiose self-image. Coupled with a proclivity for adopting victim status to exploit cultural reverence for the elderly, oldmentum not only facilitates physical dominance in shared spaces but also perpetuates psychological dynamics wherein others—bound by guilt, societal expectations, or conditioned respect—enable and excuse such behavior, even when it stems from a lifelong pattern of manipulation or abuse.
I twisted my ankle diving out of the way as Grandma barreled past with her walker, unstoppable in her oldmentum, like a freight train that forgot how to brake.
