So – it’s a little off topic – but I justify my offtopificiation by saying that quite frankly - this election will affect everything.

Offtopification 

Of, or having to do with points being deducted for an academic assignment due to not staying on the assigned topic.

I was suppose to write my essay on border issues and had points deduced for offtopification when I, instead, wrote about polar bears.
